Rice is a seed from one of the species of the grass known as Oryza sativa, also known as Asian Rice or Oryza glaberrima i.e. Africal Rice. It is one of the most widely consumed cereal grain in the world. Rice is also one of the major crops in India. It is an important part of India economy. Being one of the favorite crops in India, it is consumed in large extent in almost every part of India. India has around 20 percent share of world rice production.

It is a tropical plant and flourishes well under hot and humid climate. It consumes lots of water and is grown in areas where heavy annual rainfalls are received. In a data which is received from Bangkok based Thai Rice Exporters Association, India has become the largest exporter of Rice in the world by beating Thailand. According to the reports, India exported 10.23 million tons of rice in 2015 as compared to Thailand’s 9.8 million tons. Rice exports by different countries totaled US$21.2 billion in 2015. Below is the list of top 15 exporters of Rice in the world :-

India: US$6.4 billion (30.1% of total rice exports)
Thailand: $4.5 billion (21.4%)
United States: $2.1 billion (9.7%)
Pakistan: $1.9 billion (9.1%)
Vietnam: $1.6 billion (7.5%)
Italy: $591.8 million (2.8%)
Uruguay: $377.4 million (1.8%)
Brazil: $350.2 million (1.7%)
Cambodia: $335.1 million (1.6%)
Australia: $301.2 million (1.4%)
China: $267.4 million (1.3%)
Belgium: $242.3 million (1.1%)
Guyana: $212.1 million (1%)
Netherlands: $191.3 million (0.9%)
Spain: $168.5 million (0.8%)
